ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Painting is one of the activities I juggle, but it is the most special, as it gives a completely personal voice without words. I use oil painting, watercolour, and I also work with digital drawing tablet, while creating hand-drawn digital paintings. Among the genres of art, still lives with natural and human-made elements, landscapes and urban scenes attract me the most.
Dealing with art lets me experience timeless values: beauty, peace and stability, and I wish to give them back. My works are always about visual pleasure, tranquility and balance. I would like to mend the relationship between our inner being and the outside world, and foster a more hopeful view about our existence. My art nurtures contemplation and supports a gentle, sensuous and thoughtful approach towards life.
As a social scientist I studied how place influences our identity and the other way around. As a painter I like to draw attention to the richness of our environment, that shapes us and that we carefully shape. My paintings try to capture the aesthetic side of our surroundings, and while they celebrate nature and human achievements, they also reinforce our connection to the tangible world. From this point of view the representation of a large natural scene or a great architecture is just as appealing as the close examination of a fragile flower bouquet.
To every subject I have a personal connection. My paintings show objects that I touched, places that I saw. Although I value realism and rely on its solidity in the case of forms, my colours convey rather emotions than the strict reality. I have a fondness of varied, intense colours that enhance the atmosphere. They express my feelings about the scene, a unique point of view, and so they carry personality.
I am an entirely self-taught painter, at the very beginning of a fine artist career. The Echoing Green is the first collection that I share with the wider audience.
